Produce wholesalers often offer a large array of fruits and vegetables for sale. Usually only retailers and restaurants can buy fresh fruits and vegetables from produce wholesalers. Produce wholesalers do not usually sell fresh fruits and vegetables to individual members of the general public. Produce wholesalers normally sell common fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes; apples; oranges; lettuce and cabbage all year round. More exotic fruits and vegetables are only sold by produce wholesalers for the portion of the year in which they are in season. Some produce wholesalers specialize in exotic fruits and vegetables. Some produce wholesalers specialize in commonly found produce items.

Wholesale produce can have dramatically lower prices than what you would find in retail grocery stores. Farmer's markets and distributors are less likely to use GMOs, fertilizers, and pesticides on their fresh fruit and vegetables. Berries, garlic, ginger roots, eggplants, and cabbage can often be found throughout the year when they're in harvest. Other greens, like spinach, can be found at lower prices. Juicy fruits, such as pears, strawberries and mangos can be found in various markets at wholesale prices. For those that enjoy artichokes and avocados will be happy to know that they are also available at low prices without taking away from the freshness that you can find in your super grocery store. If anything, the fruit and vegetables you buy directly from the distributor will be fresher than if you bought them at a retail produce store. The industry will have competitive farms, which means you're left with fresh organic produce at discount prices when bought in bulk or directly from distributors. The food industry has the materials to give you a good amount of selection throughout the year. If you want to learn how to buy directly from a company and cutting out retail stores, you will probably have to order a minimum amount for each order to have them deliver to your home. Of course, early morning visits to a farmer's market is a great way to enjoy the day while shopping for fresh fruits and vegetables. Friends and family that know of a favorite place they buy fruits and vegetables, ask to go with them the next time they visit to get an idea on what they have to offer.
